Joaquim Segalés in Profile



Joaquim Segalés graduated as a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in 1991. In 1996, he obtained his PhD degree, followed by Dipl. ECVP in 2000 and Dipl. ECPHM in 2004 (founding member). Dr. Segalés became a diagnostician at the Pathology Department of the Veterinary School of Barcelona in 1996 and was responsible for the pathological diagnostic activity in pigs between 1996 and 2012.

Currently, he is the Director of the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (CReSA) and Associate Professor at the Veterinary School of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (main subjects: pathology and pig clinics). He is also the President of the European College of Porcine Health Management (for the period 2013-16). 

Since 1993, he has been involved in research of pig diseases, mainly infectious diseases (including infections by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), Aujeszky’s disease virus, porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), swine hepatitis E virus, swine Torque teno sus viruses (TTSuV), Haemophilus parasuis and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. He has co-authored more than 200 articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
